Houston– A roofing worker in west Houston suffered severe electrical burns after a power line incident triggered fires in multiple townhomes on Wednesday afternoon. The accident occurred on Sugar Hill Drive when an electrical current traveled through the building’s metal gutter system, igniting fires in more than six homes. Firefighters responded quickly to the scene, but both the injured worker and a firefighter, who suffered heat exhaustion, were transported to the hospital for treatment.

According to KHOU 11, eyewitnesses described a terrifying moment when they heard an explosion and saw a man on fire on the roof. Local resident Terry Jones recalled receiving calls from neighbors about the incident. While Jones’ home avoided the flames, he suspected that several of his appliances were damaged due to the power surge. The fire caused extensive structural damage to multiple homes, displacing several families.

Authorities continue to investigate the exact cause of the incident, and no further details have been released about the injured worker’s condition. The tragedy highlights the dangers roofing professionals face, particularly when working near power lines. Fire officials urge roofing contractors and homeowners to be cautious when working on or near electrical components to prevent similar accidents.
