Egg Harbor Township, NJ– A 23-year-old roofer tragically lost his life on Tuesday afternoon after being crushed by falling concrete at a condominium complex in Egg Harbor Township. According to police, the worker was part of a crew performing demolition and construction work at the Clubs at Tilton. As the team was cleaning up at the end of the day, a concrete slab at a staircase merge point collapsed on top of him, causing severe internal injuries.
Emergency responders rushed the injured worker to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City, where he underwent emergency surgery but did not survive. Meanwhile, a mother and her two children were temporarily trapped in one of the second-floor units, requiring rescue by ladder. Other displaced residents were provided temporary housing at a hotel by the complex’s management.
Authorities, including the town’s building inspector and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), are investigating the cause of the collapse.
