Wellsboro, PA– A roofing worker was critically injured after falling 30 feet from the roof of Wellsboro High School on the morning of Wednesday, July 2, during an ongoing roof replacement project.

According to Wellsboro Police Chief Chad Boyce, the incident occurred around 8:55 a.m. when the worker fell from the school roof and landed on a concrete sidewalk below. Emergency personnel quickly responded to the scene, and a medical evacuation helicopter was dispatched to the school’s football field. The worker was airlifted to Robert Packer Hospital for treatment.

Although the man was wearing a safety harness, Boyce confirmed that the harness was not connected to an anchoring system at the time of the fall.

No updates on the man’s condition have been released, but authorities described his injuries as critical.

Officials have not released the name of the injured worker, and it is unclear whether an OSHA investigation is underway.
