A Texas roofing business owner, his wife, and his mother were among four people killed by a mass shooter in the Seth Ward neighborhood near Plainview, Texas in the early morning hours of Saturday, February 7.
The shooter took own his life increasing the death toll to five.
Hector Alonso Sanchez, 28, who was known in his community as a dedicated roofing contractor, was killed along with his wife, Tanya Paola Valadez Rangel, 30, and his mother, Rosalba Saenz Rodriguez, 47. A close friend, 21-year-old Reily Joseph Zavala Barrientos, was transported to Covenant Hospital-Plainview, where he later died from his injuries.
The Hale County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Texas Rangers at approximately 3:40 a.m. following the shooting in the 2700 block of Upchurch Street. Authorities identified 33-year-old Saul Villa as the gunman, who also died at the scene. The Texas Department of Public Safety stated there is no ongoing threat to the public, though the investigation into motive and circumstances remains active.
Family members are remembering Sanchez as a hardworking man who was devoted to his trade and his family. “My cousin Hector was always a hard worker,” said Ruth Sanchez. “He dedicated himself to his roofing company and did everything he could to provide for his family.”
Tanya was remembered as “the life of every party- cheerful, full of energy, and always able to bring a smile to those around her,” while Rosalba was described as “a sweet and caring woman, always willing to help out anyone in need.”
“Their presence brought warmth and joy to our family and our small Texas town,” Ruth said.
The family has launched a fundraiser to help cover funeral expenses and support those left behind, including two daughters. “Any support, no matter how small, will make a difference and help us honor their memory,” Ruth Sanchez said.
