LIVERMORE, CA– A federal court has ordered a Northern California roofing contractor to pay nearly $2 million in back wages and damages after investigators found the company failed to properly compensate its workers for overtime. The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California approved a consent judgment requiring Northern California Nail Co. Inc. and its owners to pay $1,943,685 to 158 employees. WILTON MANORS, FLORIDA- A 23-year-old roofer died after falling from the top of a five-story building in Wilton Manors, police said. Wilton Manors Police said officers responded around 9 a.m., Thursday, to the 2600 block of Northeast 14th Avenue, where the man had fallen from the rooftop. Emergency crews with Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue transported him to Broward Health Medical Center, where he later died. The victim’s name has not been released. As part of standard procedure, the Broward Sheriff’s Office and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are conducting investigations into the incident.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA– A longtime employee of Platinum Roofing has been arrested after investigators say she embezzled more than $177,000 from the Rockledge-based company over a two-year period. Authorities identified the suspect as Christine Beasley, 49, of Titusville. Beasley, who had worked with Platinum Roofing for several years, is accused of manipulating payroll records, writing unauthorized checks, and misusing company credit cards between 2023 and 2024. St. Paul, MN– A Minnesota roofing contractor and his family are facing serious felony charges after investigators alleged they stole wages from workers and engaged in tax and insurance fraud while working on a public housing project in St. Paul. Jose Manuel Herrera, 71, principal owner of Bayvista, was charged in Ramsey County with two felony counts of wage theft and six felony counts of tax evasion and insurance fraud. HARTFORD, Conn. — A Connecticut roofing contractor has admitted to a decade-long tax evasion scheme in which he failed to report nearly $21 million in business income, according to federal prosecutors. Anthony Delmaro, 48, of Woodbridge, pleaded guilty Tuesday before U.S. District Judge Sarala V. Nagala to one count of tax evasion. LEE COUNTY, FL– A 44-year-old man is in custody after deputies say he stole thousands of dollars worth of roofing materials from a construction site in Estero. Leonel Duarte was arrested Wednesday by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) after being tracked down through an Apple AirTag that had been hidden inside one of the stolen items. KANO, Nigeria– A Sharia Court in Kano has sentenced a 35-year-old man, Sabiu Abdullahi, to 50 strokes of the cane after he pleaded guilty to stealing five pieces of roofing sheets. The defendant, a resident of Mariri Quarters in Kano, was charged with trespassing and theft, offenses which violate Sections 134 and 287 of the Kano State Penal Code Law. Columbus, MS–  A tragic accident occurred late Monday morning at the Mississippi University for Women (MUW) in Columbus, Mississippi, when a roofer fell from a two-story building and later died from his injuries. According to Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant, the incident took place at Painter Hall, a campus building that houses humanities classes.
