A North Texas roofing contractor is under investigation after allegedly collecting more than $500,000 from dozens of homeowners for roofing projects that were never completed.
According to a report from The Dallas Morning News Watchdog, roofer Gilad Rubinsky is accused of taking insurance payouts from at least 40 homeowners across the region and failing to deliver on promised work.
Victims claim they paid deposits or signed over full insurance checks for roof replacements, only to see little or no work performed. Reported losses range from approximately $1,500 to as much as $50,000 per homeowner.
In many cases, homeowners said projects were delayed repeatedly with explanations such as weather issues or scheduling problems before communication stopped altogether.
A former employee of the roofing company told investigators that dozens of jobs were never completed despite payments being collected, suggesting a pattern rather than isolated incidents.
The case gained momentum after one homeowner, an aircraft mechanic, began connecting with other victims online. Using social media, reviews, and public records, he compiled a list of affected customers and organized a group to share information.
That effort helped demonstrate a broader pattern of alleged fraud across multiple jurisdictions, an important factor in advancing the investigation.
The report also notes that Rubinsky was active in poker circles and participated in events such as the World Series of Poker. Some victims have speculated that financial losses may have contributed to the situation, though no official connection has been confirmed by authorities.
Multiple law enforcement agencies are reportedly involved in the case as complaints continue to surface. Authorities have not yet announced final charges or outcomes, and the investigation remains ongoing.
