Hollywood, FL- Employees at a roofing business in South Florida stumbled upon an infant’s remains in a large dumpster at an apartment complex on Monday morning, according to authorities.

Upon their arrival at approximately 8 a.m., police officials began life-saving procedures, but to no avail as the infant did not respond, Hollywood police representative Deanna Bettineschi mentioned in her report. She indicated that an ongoing investigation is in place and withheld further information pertaining to the infant.

As the employees set up to start a roof replacement job at the complex in Hollywood, located just to the north of Fort Lauderdale, they discovered the infant in a box they didn’t recognize in the waste bin, as detailed by the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

John Mitala, owner of Infinity Roofing said that the baby was discovered before 8am. “Somebody happened to notice the box in the dumpster that didn’t belong to us,” he said. When they opened it, they saw the baby and immediately called police.

“The guys were shook,” Mitala said. “No one expects something like that. It’s really affected the entire company.”

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call the Hollywood Police Department at 954-764-4357 (HELP) or 954-967-4567. Tipsters can e-mail or text to hollywoodpdtips@hollywoodfl.org. Information can also be given to Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 (TIPS) or browardcrimestoppers.org.
