EXCELSIOR SPRINGS, Mo. — In a shocking repeat of an already unbelievable event, a car went airborne and crashed into the roof of the Clay-Ray Veterans Hall early Wednesday morning — the second time such an incident has occurred in just a matter of months.
According to Excelsior Springs police, the crash happened around 7:20 a.m. A man was driving along Linwood Avenue when he failed to stop at St. Louis Avenue. The vehicle launched off the roadway, sailed through the air, and slammed into the roof of the local veterans building.

Back in February, a similar crash left two teenagers seriously injured when another airborne car pierced the same building’s roof. That incident led to criminal charges and extensive damage — repairs from which were still ongoing when this new crash occurred.
The recurrence has left community members stunned.

Security footage from a nearby elementary school captured the moment the vehicle became airborne, showing the car hitting the roof and its engine separating and landing behind the building.
Police noted that the driver in this latest crash was wearing a seat belt — a detail that may have saved his life. Despite the dramatic impact, he was able to walk to a waiting ambulance and was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
Now, with the building facing yet another round of repairs, local leaders are calling on the community for support.
